The tax authority is compiling a list of celebrities generating significant income from livestream sales and affiliate marketing on e-commerce platforms.
A total of 120 foreign suppliers have registered, declared and paid taxes worth more than VNĐ8.68 trillion (US$341 million) through the General Department of Taxation (GDT)’s e-portal this year, up by 26 per cent year-on-year and 74 per cent compared to the annual target.
Many businesses have achieved remarkable growth by leveraging e-commerce platforms, while cross-border retail sales have surged with increasing participation from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The General Department of Taxation on Thursday officially launched the e-portal for households and individuals running businesses to register, declare and pay tax.
The proposed amendment would require platforms like Facebook, Apple and Netflix, which generate revenues in Việt Nam, to register and pay taxes directly or through authorised representatives starting January 1, 2025.
E-commerce platforms must be electronically connected with tax management agencies from the beginning of next year, not from next month, as the tax watchdog aims to better collect taxes from sellers operating on the platforms.
